It's 9:30 at night and we are sitting on a terrace, listening to opera music, overlooking the Lucca area. This is one of the most relaxing and romantic settings I have ever been in. We are the only patrons at this gorgeous boutique hotel tonight, located in the hills of Balbano, just west of Lucca. The view is stunning from up here, and we feel we are in heaven in our room. It's larger than any of our hostels, with all the amenities we could ever think of needing.
Our meal was superb, and tomorrow we are to receive a complimentary 4-course meal as well as a wine tasting as part of our package. I had a fregola with seafood sauce, and Bryan had roast duck breast to start. He had a steak fillet with black bean sauce, and I the king prawn with mixed vegetables. I can't wait until tomorrow's meal!
Earlier we visited Pisa on our way to Lucca to see a few of the sites there. As any other Tuscan town, the buildings were cute with shutters and individualistic decor, such as doors and shutters. Of course, we saw the Leaning Tower and Cathedral and then wandered the streets for an hour. Pisa is nice but probably not worth staying too long. An afternoon was enough for us anyway.
Bryan is sick with a cold and I'm threatening to make him sleep on the lawn but I think I'll relent and let him enjoy our wonderful room. We might go for a walk around the hotel grounds and work off dinner before bed. The lights in the valley now are truly beautiful.
